Workshops 2014

Classes will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday, see details below for each class. 
Please contact instructors directly to sign up and for additional info on the class. 
This page will be updated to indicate which classes are full when informed by instructors.
 All classes will be held in the new Grange Building at the Fairgrounds, except as noted below.

Purse Class (3D Wet Felting With  Alpaca) Friday
12:30 - 4 PM

 $50 per student including materials
Participants will make a felted purse. Prepare to get somewhat wet and dirty, as we work with hot soapy water and unwashed fleece. Classes are held outside or inside if weather is inclement.
Max. 6 students.

Creative Carding Friday
1 - 3 PM

Everything you ever wanted to know about carding and then some. Equipment wil be provided (Flick carders, Hand carders,  Blending boards, Drum carders). Class will do: Color blending, Fiber blending, Wild carding, Self striping Yarn Batts, Color carding.  Drop spindles, carders and fiber will be supplied for class use. Students are welcome to bring their own carders, wheel or spindle or use what is provided.

Skirting Friday

$10 to cover materials
Learn how to prepare a fleece to send to the mill to be processed, to prepare for showing, to prepare to use yourself. We will be learning to recognize faults. We will learn what to do to make the fleece ready for judging, selling, or reducing the price of processing.  And more. Bring a fleece if you want to work on it.

Needle Felted Applique Quilt

$25.00 plus a $25 kit fee.   

Learn how to needle felt a charming realistic sheep themed quilt, using a 3 needle felting tool with wool appliques, wool fabric backgrounds, and hand embroidery.

Temari Balls Friday
 12 - 4 PM

$20, Materials fee $5.
Temari is an ancient craft from Japan that produces a kaleidoscopic patterned ball by embroidering with colorful threads. In this class, we'll cover a Styrofoam ball by winding with yarn, then with sewing thread. We'll use lovely cotton and metallic threads to create the embroidered patterns.
Minimum 5, maximum 10.

Kumihimo (Japanese) Braiding Friday
  12 - 3 M

 Marudai kits available that include a handheld braiding disk and 8 bobbins for  $12.
Marudai owners:  please bring yours with at least 8 bobbins.
This workshop will introduce Japanese braiding and  traditional tools. Students will establish a foundation of braiding skills based on logical braiding foundations using a  handheld Form. Please bring scissors, tapestry needle, short knitting needle and thread.  Click on title for full details.
